The PlayStation 4 “Slim” come in a smaller & lighter form factor with reduced energy consumption than the current model. To put that in number, it is smaller by 30 percent, lighter by 16 percent, and reduce in power consumption by 28 percent. All of that without sacrificing the performance which is identical to the current model. This PlayStation 4 “Slim” model will effectively replacing the current model.

The PlayStation 4 “Slim” model will be available in some Asia countries starting 9^th November 2016. Malaysia will be getting this model some time later with retail recommended price of RM1,349 presumably for 500GB model. It is unknown if there is 1TB version for this particular model, we will have to wait & see.

The PlayStation 4 Pro features an upgraded GPU & faster CPU which is twice as fast as the current PlayStation 4 model. With the increase in performance, this would allow players to enjoy better gaming experience in 4K. While owning a 4K display is not entirely necessary, players are able to enjoy on a normal HD display with all the benefits of increased in performance.

There are plenty of upcoming games that are previewed on the PlayStation 4 Pro, which are, Horizon Zero Dawn, Spiderman, For Honor, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Rise Of The Tomb Raider, Watch Dogs 2 , Killing Floor 2, Day’s Gone, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare, & Paragon.

Interestingly, Sony also demoed games that are already out in the market which includes Uncharted 4, InFamous: First Light & Shadow of Mordor. Sony introduced “Forward Compatibility” where selected game titles will enjoy graphical upgrades for the PlayStation 4 Pro in a form of a patch. Video streaming service such as Netflix & YouTube will have 4K videos.

The PlayStation 4 Pro model will be available in some Asia countries starting 10^th November 2016. Like the “Slim” model, Malaysia will be getting this model some time later with retail recommended price of RM1,799 for 1TB model. It is unknown if there is 1TB version for this particular model, we will have to wait & see.

The PlayStation VR didn’t feature that much in this event. But it is important to point out that even the device support all PlayStation 4 models, with the PlayStation 4 Pro model in particular, player will able to enjoy much graphical enhancement & boost. PlayStation VR will definitely benefit from the powerful PlayStation 4 Pro.

Sony refreshed the DualShock 4 controller with the light bar shown on the top of the touch pad allowing you to see what colour the beam of light is by glancing down. The controller doesn’t need to be connected via Bluetooth exclusively. The new controller supports wired USB connection instead of for charging & pairing only. PlayStation Camera refresh comes with a new cylinder design. Both peripherals will be sold starting from 15^th September 2016.

Everything Else

Sony presented HDR effect in games on PlayStation 4 Pro. Fortunately, the HDR feature will not be restricted to the flagship model. Sony announced that all PlayStation 4 models including the current model will have HDR feature with a firmware update.

Both of these consoles will be sold alongside each other as Sony promised that the console will not cannibalize each other in the market. All games will work with all PlayStation 4 console regardless.
