The Release of OP09

The upcoming release of OP09 is generating buzz among One Piece TCG enthusiasts. Scheduled for August 31st, just one day before the new bans take effect, OP09 introduces a fresh collection of cards that is set to significantly impact the game. This set features all the Yonko characters, along with two additional characters. Many of the new cards come with trait restrictions, requiring players to build their decks around their chosen leader to fully utilize these cards’ abilities.

The Shifting Meta

Prior to the release of OP09, the meta was predominantly influenced by R/P Law and B Lucci. However, the upcoming bans are set to disrupt this status quo, with R/P Law and B Lucci ‘s stage card (OP03-098 Enies Lobby) being removed from the competitive scene.

With these bans in place, the meta is already experiencing shifts, and the arrival of OP09 is expected to further accelerate these changes. The new set features unique abilities and synergies that could lead to the rise of new deck archetypes. Players will need to rethink their strategies, adapt to the evolving meta, and optimize their decks to capitalize on the fresh dynamics introduced by OP09.

The Rise of Swarm / Rush Decks?

With the bans and restrictions placed on control decks, we speculate that Swarm and Rush decks will become more prominent. The release of new leaders, such as Buggy and Lim, who focus on playing powerful characters at a reduced cost, supports this trend.

Furthermore, the current meta’s dominance of Doflamingo, a leader that aligns with these strategies, further reinforces this shift. Doflamingo's playstyle mirrors the approach of the new leaders, emphasizing the use of large, impactful characters and strategic pressure.

Will you embrace the rise of Swarm and Rush decks, or will you carve out a unique strategy to dominate the competition? What's your game plan for the shifting meta?
